Circular work - for real

Taking responsibility - own water treatment plant

Steglinge water treatment plant was completed in 2023 and since then a large majority of the water used by Steglinge Farm has been treated in our own treatment plant. The water is used in the daily operations of the farm, in our washing department, for cleaning and for irrigation. The unique facility has caught the attention of the media and regularly attracts interested parties for study visits both from Sweden and abroad.

As a result of having its own water treatment plant, Steglinge has reduced its water consumption by 60,000 cubic meters per year and it also means that Höganäs municipality's treatment plant is getting rid of a load equivalent to 10,000 PE.

This environmental initiative benefits not only the local community but also the global sustainability initiative as a whole and is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The sludge produced in the treatment process is highly nutritious and is used as fertilizer for crops in the field.

New and climate-smart facility

The advantage of a new facility is that you can work with sustainable building blocks. At Steglinge , all cold rooms are freeze-insulated, which saves energy and minimizes waste cooling. The heat generated from air and refrigeration compressors is recovered and used to heat other spaces in the yard. In total, all 7,000 square meters of staff areas, technical areas and the ripening rooms, which hold about 200 tons of avocados, are heated by self-generated waste heat created by air compressors and refrigeration machines. Not a single kWh has been purchased for heating. Harnessing excess energy instead of wasting it by releasing it into the air is a resource-efficient and smart solution to reduce the carbon footprint. The financial savings are reinvested in the business and earmarked to further strengthen our sustainability efforts.

Reducing transport and minimizing waste

A FLEXIBLE PRODUCER = A SUSTAINABLE PRODUCER
One of Steglinge's greatest strengths is the flexibility we possess as a producer, where we control the entire value chain from seed to the last sight and where we accommodate departments for different areas and needs under the same roof. We are not just a grower, a peeler, a precooker or a packer, but from our departments we produce several categories of different raw materials for a wide target group. This has great advantages in terms of sustainability as a given harvest gives us raw materials of different sizes and quality. By using the right raw material for the right needs, we can not only utilize as much as possible of each raw material but also, by sorting our raw materials according to size and quality, utilize as much as possible of each harvest. In this way, we keep not only food waste but also transportation to a minimum.

Vision

"To harness the full potential of raw materials and make healthy food accessible to a broader audience in a sustainable and responsible manner"

Labels and certifications

Steglinge has a variety of certifications and we undergo regular audits to ensure that we meet the requirements in relation to those. In this way, we always work with the highest requirements in terms of sustainability in both cultivation and production and with full transparency regarding traceability. We always prioritize local farming and nurture our relationships with growers and customers with great care. We are certified according to BRC, KRAV, EKO, RIP, IPM and IP and we also work with labels such as SMAK, Från Sverige and Svenskt Sigill.

Promises and vision

We are actively working towards a green tomorrow with real circularity, reduced transport and waste minimization, and the most credible and rigorous labels and certifications on the market.

We want to take advantage of the full potential of raw materials and make healthy food accessible to more people.

We always prioritize local for the sake of the environment and to benefit growers in our local area.

We only work with growers who share our values.

We are, of course, unionized and offer fair market wages and salaries, as well as good working conditions.
